A Dark Horse

This is an album by Martin Murray who plays Banjo, Mandolin and fiddle. He has a great old style of banjo playing which (as Frankie Gavin says) echoes that of Mike Flanagan of The Flanagans Brothers.

There are some nice selections of tunes on this album consisting of trad tunes, new compositions from Martin Murray himself and Mairtin O Connor as well as an O'Carolan tune and non-trad tunes thrown in for good measure.

He is joined by some top guest musicians too.

Garry O'Briain: Mandocello, Guitar, Piano
Brendan O'Regan: Bouzouki
James Blennerhasset: Bass
Tommy Hayes: Bones, Dumbeg
Mairtin O'Connor: Accordion
Frankie Gavin: Fiddle
Jimmy Faulkner: Lead Guitar, Dobro
Mick Kinsella: Harmonica
Bruno Staehelin: Drums
Seamus McGuire: Fiddle, Viola
John O'Dwyer: Fiddle
Matt Molloy: Flute
Donal Clancy: Guitar
Derek Bell: Harp
Timmy Murray: Guitar
Donnacha Gough: Bodhran

Not all appearing on the same track though! A lovely recording to listen to and a change from the usual trad stuff. Reccommended!
