A friend gave me this CD as he knows I like unusual singers. I love this CD, the playing and the songs are authentic and the interview is fascinating. I highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in true old-style singing.
What little I've heard of these two on samplers has been marvellous. Haunting, daunting are words I'd use of Margaret Barry's singing; her mid-c20 female peers in other countries and styles might include Edith Piaf and the Greek Rebetika singer Sotiria Bellou. One could argue she was the greatest Irish traditional singer ever to be recorded.
This recording is great!
