This cassette tape turned up on ebay a few weeks ago, and I bid on it as I’d never heard of this recording before. Joe of course plays accordion, Michael Cooney plays uilleann pipes and Noreen O’Donoghue [ formerly of “Bakerswell” ] plays harp. An odd combination you might think, but it does work. Added incentive was for 2 guest appearances from the brothers Rafferty, lilter Paddy, and Mike on flute – excellent performances of “Delaney’s” jig { posted yesterday ], and “The New-Mown Meadows”. Michael Cooney has a great solo with the slow-air “Taimse Mo Choladh” followed by as good a rendition of “Colonel Fraser” as I’ve ever heard. Sleeve notes were sparse, but it was supposed to have been released on CD. Label was “Shaskeen”.
