The Bardic Moods of Music

Despite the naff title (of it's time - no doubt) there is some lovely music on this LP.

I would particularly recommend it to all the 'spare tools' out there who sit & play back to back endless reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel after reel - I think I've made my point - the word for the endless REEL session is BORING!

There is most definitely much more to ITM than the dreaded non-stop 4/4!

This is on Gael-Linn CEF. 059 stereo
All notes are in English & Irish - ahead of it's time eh?

Musicians are:
Padraig O'Carra - Whistle & Zither (When's the last time you saw one of those in a session eh?)
Patsy McDONAGH - Accordion
Ide Ni Fhaolain - Viola
Lily O'Dea - Harp
& a very youthfull, just out ofd short trousers! -
Seamus McGuire on Fiddle
(I swear he has Brylcream on his locks, not that he had much of it - even way back in those days!! - sorry Seamus, but then I'm slightly follically (sp) challanfged too - just ever so slightly you understand!

Lovely arrangements here and well worth a listen if you like your ITM varied.

To explain where the title came from:
"Abhan Trireach is the music of three moods practised by the bardic harpers, and frequently an important magical element in the ancient mythological stories of Ireland.
The Three 'moods' are:
Geantrai - music of love & laughter
Goltrai - Music of Sadness
Suantrai - music of rest and tranquility."

So, maybe not so 'naff' after all!
