The only LP recording I know of Irish traditional music played on the piccolo, although I believe John Doonan also recorded 1 or possibly 2 cassette tapes which I haven't heard. 5 set dances included , and special mention should be made of the great acoustic bass playing by Phil Murray. Other accompanists are Harry Eglington on accordion and Dave Price on piano. Lively stuff!
I believe John Doonan has 'passed on', but latterly he used to perform on the Festival circuit in the UK, with the 'Doonan Family' from the North East. I know of at least one other recording of the Doonan Family.
Michael Doonan, John's son and uillean piper also plays the piccolo, as do other members of the family. Last time I saw them a number of years ago (Fylde Folk Festival), they had a couple of sets with at least three piccolos in them. Stu Luckely fronted them for a while.
