A "companion piece" to the epic 4-CD "Farewell To Ireland" box-set, this 2-CD set - again compiled by Ron Kavana - contains archive material from the 20s, 30s and 40s recorded in Ireland and America.
Featuring such luminaries as Michael Coleman, Ed Reavey, Paddy Killoran, Patsy Touhey, James Morrison, Delia Murphy, Leo Rowsome, The Ballinakill Ceili Band and many more, this is an inspiring reminder of where we came from and a useful opportunity to compare today's music with that of the so-called "golden age".
And to think that it's available for £4.99 from Proper/Retro ...
Track 38 is a p=ss-take from Kavana. Seemingly "Maurice McSweeney" never existed, and it's a recording of some musicians from the 1980s. It's certainly a very different sound from the rest of the recordings.
