A discussion asked about good mandolin playing in Irish music, and I remembered Paul Brady's 2 reels on this recording, and was astounded that nobody had already posted it here. As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the best albums of traditional Irish songs ever. Everybody raves about Brady's "Arthur McBride" - and rightly so, - but for me, "I Am A Youth That's Inclined To Ramble" surpasses that. I will admit to not liking the Balkan-type instrumental too much, and "Young Edmund" doesn't work for me either, but the rest are solid gold.
I honestly can't think of anyone in Ireland at the moment who could put out as good an album as this. An absolute classic.
Welcome Here, Kind Stranger
How did we forget about this one ? More later.
