Paul Bradley played our club recently, & frightened the heck out of all the Fiddlers in the place. He brought along this CD of his, from '97, which is a cracker.
Born in Bessbrook, Co. Armagh, his major influence was the crisp clear playing of Josephine Keegan, while on record, he listened a lot to players like Tommy Potts, Kevin Burke, Sean Keane, Sean Maguire, Des Donnelly, John Doherty, Vincent Griffin & clearly, when you listen to Paul, Tommy Peoples was a major influence too.
While living in Belfast, he played regularly with mighty Fiddlers like Deirdre Shannon, Andy Dixon, Brian Sutherland, Maurice Bradley, Martin McGinley & Ben Gunne. He also played with Breandan O'Hare (Flute), Tina, John, Paul & Joanne McSherry, Alan McCartney (Guitar), Jason O'Rourke (Concertina), Jimmy Fitzpatrick (Banjo), Desi Adams (Flute) & Dusty Dorris....
His musical associates on this CD are Mairtin Quinn - Accordion, Paul Doyle - Guitar, Alan McCartney - Guitar, Ray Gallen - Bodhran, John McSherry - Pipes, Peter Houlihan - Bones, Joe Bradley - Concertina.
He is a master on the instrument, & the night he played our club he brought along Paul Meehan on Guitar, & Padraig Rhynne on Concertina, both highly respected musicians. The sound of Fiddle & Concertina merged as one as each strived to produce even more extravagent variations with each turn of the tune, the whole thing done at pace was pure magic.
