This is one of the all-time great céilí band recordings! Of course, the Lactín Naofa had plenty of talent during its ten years of existence, from the early 1950s to the early 1960s.
Sometimes known as the Miltown Malbay Céilí Band, over the years these brilliant musicians played with the Lactín Naofa : Martin Talty, Paddy Malone, Paddy Joe McMahon, Angela Merry, Colm O'Connor, J.C. Talty, Josie Hayes, Paddy Galvin, Junior Crehan, James Flynn, Christy Dixon, Michael Falsey, Willie Clancy, Michael Sexton, Marin Malone, Aiden Vaughan, Jimmy Ward and others.
The original recording was the first long-playing (LP) record of a céilí band to be recorded in Ireland - on the "Dublin Record Company" label. It has been re-released by kind permission of the O'Neill brothers - James and John - of New York. The interesting and informative liner notes provide a glimpse into an era that has passed and will never be recreated. However, the music stands alone as a testament to the talent of all who played with this great band.

I was so excited that the CD was in the mailbox this evening (in NYC) when it was only ordered from Custy's on Sunday.... and then the fadas actually "worked" on this site.....
Perhaps the web master will "fix" the original posting?
Some great tunes here played in the characteristic unhurried style of West Clare. Junior Crehan remarked at the time on the band's music being a link between the generations and I feel that this CD today is also just that. It hands down this great music from the 1950s to the young musicians who are currently continuing the tradition in the 21st century.
This CD is very nostalgic for me as my Dad (RIP) played poano on it. The picture on the cover was taken in our front garden and a lot of the practice sessions took place in our house when I was only 4yrs old. My mother had the original vinyl LP recording which became scratched from needle ware. It is a great tribute to all those original band members that there is a lasting version made of their first of a kind recording made all those years ago.
Not sure I'd call the LNCB playing in the 'unhurried style' . Seven or eight years ago Barry Taylor held a talk for the Old Kilfarboy society about the band, all surviving members (except for JC Talty who called in to be excused) were present and they played on that occasion. Few of them now survive and the Band reformed with relations of the original members for a one of concert in Glor for the launch of the CD.
Only last saturdaynight the same resurrected band (this time minus a few) played at a fundraiser concert for the Clare 250 cancer centre in the Armada hotel Miltown Malbay.

A Great Recording
