Ancient Music Of Ireland - from the Petrie Collection
from the CD notes:
Widely regarded as one of the most important compilations, George Petrie's Ancient Music of Ireland has provided singers, musicians, and students worldwide with an exhaustive fund of authentic folk airs and dances, faithfully handed down from live music performances in their land of origin. Drawn from Petrie's vast library, the present collection of 18 classic tunes has been arranged for concert piano by leading Irish pianist and composer J.J. Sheridan. A graduate of the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, J.J. now lives in the United States, where he tours in his various one man shows, including "The Art of Turlough O'Carolan."

'The Ewe With The Crooked Horn' - Ancient Music of Ireland!? Could have sworn that was a Scottish tune!

As for 'The Pearl of the Yellow River' - that sounds like it's more likely to be a Chinese tune!
Sorry, irishpiano51, I couldn't resist it.
This does look like an interesting collection though.

The Ewe With The Crooked Horn
All selections from Ancient Music of Ireland are from the George Petrie the folk collector, published in 1905. Petrie sources were musicians noth and south of Ireland. Indded there are many in the collection of Scottish or other origin. The Ewe with the crooked horn, is know in County Monaghan as "Sweet Rosalea", other alternative titles include "Bob with the Horn" "Miss Huntley's."
The tune The Pearl of the Yellow Road (not river) is indeed and Irish air collected by notated by Petrie from a Mr. Flately.
