"Irish Music"

This recording was discussed recently on the “Chiff & Fipple” website. You may recognise the names of some of the musicians involved. It was recorded in Brittany in 1973.
“1691” were a fore-runner of “The Bothy Band”, comprising Matt Molloy, Tommy Peoples, Triona ni Dhomnhaill and Peter Browne with singer Liam Weldon.
“The Castle Ceili band” line-up for this recording consisted of Charlie Lennon, Joe Ryan, Michael Tubridy, Mick O’Connor and Paddy O’Brien. They appear to have left the drummer and piano-player at home for this LP.
Interesting that the set of 3 jigs played here by the “CCB” all later turned up on the “Bothy Band’s” 1st album.
The 2nd last track is a solo by Tommy Peoples, and is given the name “The Virgin Mary”.
“O’Donohue’s March”, I’ve always known as “The Eagle’s Whistle”.

1961 - Irish Folk Songs

I have stumbled upon a different album by 1691 entitled Irish Folk Songs.
It contains 11 songs/tunes solely by 1691 - no tunes included from the castle ceili band on this recording.

It can be downloaded at the following blog site:
