Got this yesterday and felt I had to spread the news - Fraser on fiddle and Haas on cello, nothing else, no fancy percussion or guitar or vamping blooming pianos just glorious music. mostly, if not all, Scottish but the joy of it just shines through. Got to be the best thing I've listned to for ages.

nb - I've nothing against pianos - just rather listen to music without them!

This is a lovely album; I would certainly recommend it. I can listen to this one six times through and never get tired of it.

By the way, I believe that Alasdair spells his name like I just wrote it, at least that's what I remember from the Valley of the Moon flyers and my CDs....

Natalie Haas is one impressive cellist! This cd is so good, well, I don't have the words. It's beautiful.

Alasdair

What's the real name of Fraser? Alistair or Alasdair???

# Posted on February 11th 2008 by miyagi

Alasdair is correct. If you go to http://www.nataliehaas.com and follow the links to the albums, you'll see it spelled that way everywhere.

Extra tune in the Stirling Castle Set

There is a tune included in the Stirling Castle Set that isn't listed in the liner notes. It comes between Jenny Dang the Weaver and Johnny Wilmot's Fiddle. It starts about 2:58 on the track. Anyone know what the name of this tune is?

Fire and Grace

The missing track is "As A Thoiseach" or "Keep It Up"

Alasdair

He spells his name Alasdair, not Alistair.
But regardless of the spelling, this album is amazing. Both of them are so talented and they sound incredible together, and there are tons of really great tunes on the album.

Went to a workshop with both of them on 12/5/09. What wonderful music

Fire and Grace

Amazing. The quality of musicianship is top notch, and the tunes are treated with respect.

alasdair fraser's high reel set query

on the 'fire & grace' album; can someone please tell me the name of the second tune in the 'high reel set'? (first reel after 'the hut on staffin island'). i think i know it (in fact i think i may kick myself if/when i hear the title), but all i can come up with is 'miss monaghan'.

thanks

Re: alasdair fraser's high reel set query

It's the Barrowburn Reel.

You can find the recording on the site here http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/1223.
