A fiddling grad student living near the Cascade mountains of Washington state, USA, I occasionally strap my fiddle to my pack for forays into the backcountry of North Cascades National Park. Great fun around camp at night, and a conversation starter for the rare traveler I encounter. My less-than-expert scratchings occasionally resemble the plaintive cry of a marmot, a concern in cougar country to be sure!
