Well, what should I say...
Hi :)
I'm Robert-Jan, from the Netherlands. I think I should call myself a multi-instrumentalist, because of the big number of instruments I play:
- Saxophone
- Whistles
- Irish flute
- Recorders (I almost never touch them anymore though)
- Guitar (both acoustic and electric (yes, those two are differently played on))
- Bass guitar
- Piano and other keyboard instruments
- My computer :)
That last one is mainly because of all the music I arrange and compose.
Such a big list, and just 19 years old...
Well, what else can I say? Err...
Ah.
I came in touch with celtic music at an age of about ten (?). At that time, one of those famous tap dance shows were annually on tv on new year's eve. We always watched those shows, and I just loved it from the first time I saw it. I didn't start playing it right away though.
My mom had always had all kinds of flutes, including some Clarke tin whistles. One day I really had nothing to do, so I got one of them and just started playing, after my mom gave me a quick lesson in playing those things. I was quite familiar with wind instruments, since I'd played recorder for over three years, and saxophone for about three years as well. So it didn't take more than ten minutes to get my first tune out of that much simpler tin whistle. On my birthday I got my own first whistles, and I started playing and playing. Over time I bought more of them, and I now own about fifteen tin whistles and two low whistles, which I use at a regular basis in several bands, both for Celtic(ish) music and as effect flutes. And at home I just like to play those more original tunes, sometimes accompanied by my dad on guitar.
Well, that's enough about me for now :)
