Hi All,
I'm Michael Doherty from Derry in N.Ireland. I like most kinds of music but I'm particularly fond of Irish traditional and folk music. Having said that, I don't have any recordings in that genre outside of a tape of a defunct east German group called Flaxmill and a poorly recorded tin whistle CD by Tom McHaile. I've really gotta stop lending my stuff out! I play tin whistle and like to sing the odd song when I've had a few. I've recently taken up the whistle again after many years absence and intend to master the damn thing this time around. I'd like to buy a left-handed fiddle and a mandolin sometime soon and learn to play Donegal style on the fiddle and Andy Irvin style on the mandolin. I really enjoy playing my Shaw whistle but breath control for a smoker like me is a pain. In a year or two I may be good enough to participate in sessions (I'd more of a brass neck when I was younger.) Meantime I can talk a good session.
