I play an octave mandolin made by Otis Thomas of Cape Breton. See www.fiddletree.com for a picture. I also play a Ludwig Kingston tenor banjo recently repaired by cannibalising the tension ring from my Slingerland which no longer played in tune. For people who are interested in this kind of thing, the mando has a 21" scale and the banjo is a 19 fret 23" scale. Both are tuned GDAE an octave below the fiddle. I use them for melody playing.
When playing beyond the walls of the family room, I can usually be found in The Black Swan on Thursday nights.
