Hi, I live in Nottinghamshire UK and have been listening to trad music - live and recorded for approx 30 yrs . It was hearing After Hours by the Bothy Band that hooked me in.
I took up the Mandolin to learn to play ITM (and the instrument) in 2007, previously I played guitar a bit and learned a few tunes on the whistle.
To get an idea of my world view read The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by Robert Tressell
I am currently striving to reach a standard at which I will dare take my little box to a session for the first time
