I'm a 56 year old American woman who has played folk music in one form or another all my life. I started with folk songs back in the 60's, but my interest developed to include American old-time, bluegrass, and my favorite - Irish/Celtic.
I happened to fall in love with a Swede, so I moved to Sweden in 2001 to marry him. Despite having left a comprehensive music circle back in the states, I have been lucky to find a lot of music here. I belong to three bands here in Sweden: a bluegrass band, a traditional Swedish folk music orchestra, and (be still my heart) a 3-peice Irish band.
I play penny whistle (a nickel-plated D Copeland), hammered dulcimer, guitar, and concert flute. I also play the bodhran - well enough to fool Swedes - during the rare tune when I'm not needed to carry the melody.
Thesession.org is perfect for me to keep myself abreast of ITM while living in Sweden.
