Born and brought up in West Cumbria and apart from a few years in Durham (college), London and Hereford (work) have lived here most of my life.
Learned to play piano as a child, and have dabbled with other instruments since then. Can't get to grips with anything with strings - tried violin at school but couldn't get past the "strangling cats" phase. (Have also tried tenor horn but gave up when mum insisted I practised in the garage - can't think why)
Having played recorder at school, I thought I'd give whistles a go and have jumped straight in with a Low D. Not having any background in traditional music my playing is probably best described as enthusiastic.
Now going over to the dark side - bought a flute.
