I'm a fiddle-player from Glasgow,Scotland and have been playing for almost 40 years.I had one year of classical lessons
when I was 21, but I had been playing fiddle for about two years before that,mostly accompanying songs in a ballad
group.I preferred Irish music at first, and played in comhaltas
sessions in Glasgow, where I met the late Jimmy McHugh and
many other older Irish players.In the 80's and early 90's I visited Cork and Connemara regularly with a friend called Gearoid o' Laoghaire.He took me on visits to the late Jimmy Mullen in Clifden.I was always keen on Scottish and Shetland tunes,particularly as played by Aly Bain.I also had a lot of contact with Norwegian fiddlers and visited Norway several times.In the last 10 years I have become more involved with Scottish music,but still play and listen to all kinds of tunes.I play
in a regular session in Glasgow most Saturdays and tutor a
small fiddle group on Monday nights.
