CURRENTLY INTERESTED IN ... finding others at UW or south Seattle for small non-pub sessions, especially those who are interested in cooperative repertoire building; intermediate and up.
========================================================
I live in the south end of Seattle. I enjoy playing in small sessions with friends now and then, or festival sessions in the open, but I tend to avoid pub sessions as I'd rather be able to hear myself. I have been learning and playing Irish tunes since 1994, but I began learning violin at 7. My classical sound didn't really "take" but there are fundamental skills that serve any traditional sound well that I preserve in my playing.
Some fiddle players I have learned from directly, a lot or a little. In no particular order:
Randal Bays, Ruthie Dornfeld, Dale Russ, Martin Hayes, James Kelly, Kevin Crehan.
I have attended festivals and camps sporadically including Friday Harbor Irish music camp and the Hornby Island Celtic fest. Northwest Folklife is my annual staple for refreshing my Irish fiddle outlook.
