I've played guitar for decades and took up fiddle in 1999. In the past six months I've finally gotten good enough to admit that I "play the violin." I do an occasional Irish session in Denver, and have recently found a group to play around with (mostly Irish with some old timey stuff thrown in.) They like my guitar, but haven't heard my fiddle yet. Right now I'm working on adding Garry Owen and Ten Penny Bit to my less than vast repritoire.
