Andytown Andi
Aindriu MacGabhann or Belfast Andi as I am known in Montreal, Canada. Originally from Andersonstown, West Belfast ,I started playing guitar at age 13 playing rock n' roll and blues before being bitten by the traditional music bug after seeing Christy Moore in concert at the PD club in 1981. Started playing bodhran at age 18. Baptised at Kelly's cellars pub sessions in Belfast. First pint of Guinness at Kelly's and first folk music debut on a Saturday afternoon. moved to London in 1987, worked on building sites before becoming a Motorcycle courier. Joined in trad sessions at The Stag's Head ,Camdentown and Fiddler's Elbow, Kentishtown. Hosted sessions in Finsbury Park,Camden and Bow in the East end of London. Spent one year and a half travelling between Britain, Canada and Ireland. Spent 3 years in Edinburgh,Scotland ,playing Irish folk music with fellow Belfast muscians Paul & Brian Rice. Formed bands "Know not nigh'" & "Inshalla". hosted Irish music sessions in Leith , Morningside. Tron tavern, Jenny Ha's, Sneaky Pete's,Bannermans. moved to Montreal, Canada in 1996.
