Biologist by training, computer nerd by occupation, musician at heart. (Okay, that was kinda sappy?)
Instruments played: octave mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, bass, washtub bass, whistle and, um... mouth harp?
Started out playing bass when I was 11 in the school jazz band. I still play electric bass and guitar, but started getting into Irish music in particular 12+ years ago by way of The Pogues. I branched off from there into more traditional styles of Irish music...which supplemented my prior interests in Scandinavian and Bulgarian folk music....though the Irish in me has definitely taken over. I now mostly play banjo and o. mandolin. Sad in a way, but my electric instruments have been collecting dust.
I used to live in Southern California and played in an Irish band down there called Paddy's Pig (http://www.breech.net/paddys_pig/). I do miss that group! What a talented bunch they were (and are)!
