I live in the Western Isles of Scotland and after playing fiddle for about 15 years - mostly Irish, but with Scottish and Welsh tunes thrown in for good measure - I recently switched to Flute because of shoulder problems with the fiddle. I like the flute very much and only wish I'd discovered it years ago. I find the fiddle a most exasperating instrument, and veer wildly between wanting to hug it, and smashing it against the wall! I get far less of this with the flute, though it has its moments!
I go to Willie Week in Miltown Malbay probably about every other year on average and last time I was fortunate enough to end up in an advanced class with Tommy Peoples and James Kelly for the whole week - I felt awed and privileged and learned a lot. I'll need to play flute for a couple of years before attending a flute class in Miltown though
