I play fiddle, have done for 7 or 8 years now. I play piano too [but all too classically for my liking.] I quite like to sing as well but I don't really ever get the chance too.
Hopefully going to uni next year to do traditional music. This is mainly as there is nothing else I want to study and 4 years worth of music, gigs, lectures, tunes and sessions will keep me very happy!
I love Scottish traditional music mainly. Main influences have to be Aidan O'Rourke [I could be classed as a stalker! Look at his bowing!], Lauren MacColl [Amazing slow airs!], Anna Massie [She made me realise this music isn't just old men sitting playing accordians], Session A9, Silly Wizard, Wolfstone and of course Blazin' Fiddles.
Apparently I'm very knowledgable [STM, not ITM].That was only to prove to my teacher that I wasn't stupid and I wasn't a complete waste of time. Then I realised that this type of music is amazing! So I started to learn everything I could about musicians, tunes and just anything I happened to read!
Don't mention sheet music with definite bowing written on. I won't be impressed at all. Or bow holds even. I like my bow hold! There's nothing wrong with it! 2 inches up the stick does no damage!
The best advice ever given on this site has to be: LISTEN!!
