North Light

Hi All,

I discovered this site through Mandolin Café. Yes, that’s right I play (or try to anyway) the mandolin. I’ve focused mainly on Bluegrass, Old Time and Appalachian music, though recently I’ve been working on some O’Carolan tunes. Anyway, I’ve always been fond of Irish Trad—love Planxty, The Bothy Band, Helicon, The Chieftains, etc.—but of late I’ve really developed a desire to play it as well. So much so, that here I am. I’m afraid I can’t read music very well, and I don’t have a great ear, but I’m getting better and better at laboriously translating standard notation into tab. I know it’s not ideal, but so far it’s what works for me. This seems like a great site, and I look forward to reading more discussions, and discovering new tunes.

Cheers,
James
