I grew up in suburban Chicago, but now live in Washington State. I played violin from 4th grade through 12th, but somehow got away from it for a while. Then I picked it up after many years and I decided to learn to fiddle (about 5 years ago). I asked for a book on fiddling for Christmas and was given a book on Irish fiddle. I didn't know what that was, but I ordered a cd or two. Next thing you know I was at Boston Gaelic Roots and then Swannanoa, and then Willie Clancy and my cd collection has taken over the living room. Now I have a mandolin and a tenor banjo too. This is terribly addictive.
I love the bands (esp. Altan and Cherish the Ladies), but I mostly listen to all the fiddlers I can.
Sadly, there are no sessions within 100 miles of me, but I like reading about them and would like to go to one some time.
