I'm not a player per-se although I do try; I play the guitar and mandolin as my main instruments, but struggle to learn the fiddle -- after now 5 years of that struggle, I'm confident enough to let neighbours hear me, but haven't yet found the courage to take it to the sessions; I take the mandolin and bodran instead. Will says you can tell when your playing improves because your children no longer leave the room when you play --- my younger kids now all stay, only the young adult leaves ;)
