Father Tulane Blacktop: Just a silly bogus name, really, but I like it. It has it's roots on the Jimmy Buffett fan website "Church of Buffett, Orthodox" where members take on church names such as "Brother" "Bishop" "Sister" or, in my case, "Father." (Say three Hail Bloody Mary's and call me in the morning...that sort of thing).
Anyway, I am from West (By God) Virginia, by way of Virginia, Quebec, Ontario, and currently Los Angeles California. I have been playing Irish music for about 5 years, and have played in sessions for 2. I am primarily a whistle player in the session, but am learning the concertina and the C#/D button accordion. My main instrument, however, is the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe which I have been playing under the tutelage of John MacClean Allan for two years.
I got into Irish music via movie soundtracks and then the Clancy Brothers and the Irish Rovers and the Dubliners. This led me to dig deeper, and now I have a considerable Celtic CD collection.
My main influences are the Chieftains, Sharon Shannon, The Real MacKenzies, The Pogues, Shane MacGown solo, Eric Bogel, The Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Cherish the Ladies, Finbar Fury, Pat Collins, The Grehan Sisters, U2, The Prodigals, Solas, Danu, Jimmy Buffett, Steve Earle, Ricky Skaggs, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Bill Monroe (hey I SAID I was from West Virginia...Bluegrass is in my blood).
