I like to play New England and Celtic tunes on my recorder (same range as the tinwhistle), and am also learning the fiddle. It's fun to play music together with friends, and to make new friends at local sessions.
I live north of Boston, MA, and enjoy listening to the Celtic music radio programs in the area, such as WGBH's A Celtic Sojourn and WUMB's Celtic Twilight. I got into this music by way of my love of contradances and English dances, all of which have live traditional music.
If you're local and would like to get together, drop me a line.
