jcawley

I'm a flute player originally from Manchester, New Hampshire, and have been living in Ireland since 2007. (Limerick, Dublin and now Cork since 2009). Cork is a great town; It has a great traditional music scene. Particularly love listening to and playing tunes with Matt Cranitch, Mick Daly Conal O Grada, and Connie O'Connell.

I've also recently taken up the fiddle and it sounds awful! But I'm loving the learning process (in the privacy of my own home for a while). It's slowly getting better thanks to the help of Seamus Sands' advice and Seamus Creagh's Tunes for Practice CD.

In January 2009, I started research project on the learning process in Irish traditional music. My research interests include informal, autonomous, and/or social learning practices. (Also work within the field of ethnomusicology and music education).

I'm also involved in a community radio station. Cork FM Community Radio 100.5FM. I host a 'Traditional Hour' live every Saturday. It's fun and I get to listen to and research some of my favourite music. Look us up, some podcasts are available as well! http://www.corkfm.ie/
