Hello! Greg here. I'm a relative newcomer to The Yellow Mustard. I am #19496, and joined in the summer of 2005. I'm in my mid 50s. I live near Boston, and I play flute, low whistle and fiddle at the Greenbriar Pub in Brighton. The fiddle belonged to my Grandfather, and it is one of my most precious possessions. He would play ITM tunes while my Mom danced around the kitchen. I've had it restored, and I play it for my students at school.
My flute is a magnificent instrument made by Jon Cornia. It's a keyless, tuneable delrin flute and I'm grateful for Jon's craftsmanship and artistry.
I've been a middle school music teacher since 1979, and I play all the band and orchestra instruments as well as piano and guitar, all day long. I'm also struggling to learn to play my Dunbar P3 bagpipes (GHB)
I am a conservatory-trained double bass player, and have a long symphonic background. I have only been playing ITM for a few years. That's why I seldom get involved in the "classical vs. ITM" threads that so often appear.
I am also a piano tuner, and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild. In addition to music, my interests include art, literature, and hiking. At sessions, I like to sit on the outside and join in if I know the tune and I won't be in the way (The "Tradocratic Oath"- thanks, Reverend Pete!)
Life is too short ...
...to play crummy instruments
...to drink cheap beer
...to post negative comments on thesession.org, so I never do
