I was a late starter in the music endeavour. When I was 45, I attended a concert put on by a local (the Central Coast of California, Shell Beach, Arroyo Grande, Santa Maria) Celtic group called "the Moody Druids". I was thoroughly taken with the music, particularly that of the tin whistle. At the end of the concert, the leader of the group announced that they were all local residents, and gave lessons in their respective instruments. I signed up for whistle lessons. Allowing myself 10 lessons to become expert. Fourteen years later, I am still learning, and have added flute and bodhran to my instrument stable. I have just returned from my 2nd trip to Ireland, after attending the Willie Clancy Music Summer School, and playing in sessions around Eire and in London. I used to motivate myself to travel by playing rubgy, now my obsession is to find sessions Irish to play at! It hurts a lot less than the rugby did.
