Hi ! I am a fiddle player from The Netherlands, living close to the Belgian border. I used to be in a band called 'Paddy's Surprise' (cd ' No Shoes at Mill Street ' - 2004).
I'm a regular visitor of the sessions in the Belgian Brugge and Ghent area. My great inspirator is Kevin Burke. Always been fond of Frankie Gavin's playing. Recent influences: Gerry O'Connor, Liz Carroll.
August 2007 I started a duo 'Flowing Tide' with Stefanie, the singer of the last line up of Paddy's Surprise. Apart from fiddling I do a bit of cittern playing in some of the songs, basic stuff really.
I began playing the fiddle at the age of 25. I'm now playing my 3rd violin. The first was a cheap Cinese one ('Lark'), the 2nd a Hungarian violin from around 1850. Loved that last one for its looks and its history, but not good enough in the end. So the quest for 'something better' began. Started with buying a new bow, by R. Paesold. Since 2005 I play a violin that was built that year by Johan Jacobs, Middelburg and I am quite happy with it. I use Thomastik Vision Titanium Solo G, D and A strings with a Lenzner Goldbrokat E string.
