the wounded hussar

What does one say? I enjoy making music and it might as well be Irish trad. since we live in rural Ireland and the music is the fields and forests all around. Late forties, family man .. never really got the chance to learn an instrument as a child, I suppose my 4 older siblings fought as much as ours do now over 'practising' and the lessons were getting a bit expensive be the time numbers 5 .. 9 came along!

Always whistled a tune (the teeth, that is) and even now I would consider this as my 'instrument'. If only I could render on a musical instrument what I can whistle or perhaps think I'm whistling... great way to play around with a tune during the day.

When our children were old enough, we thought it would good for them to learn the tin whistle .. a local class was found and hey presto, with them practising, there I was whistling all the tunes and airs - that was the start of this slippery slope. We have four kids ranging from 6 to 16, who play some music with varying degrees of enthusiasm. I play flute, whistle and more recently I'm enjoying the concertina.

Enjoy rambling the hills and countryside of Ireland and between a bit of daily exercise for the body and a bit of nightly music for the soul .. seems a good mix to me.
