I'm fairly new to Irish music and have been taking Fiddle lessons on and off in Baltimore over the past five years. Before that I spent 10 years in the Navy where I managed to stay involved with music through singing with various groups including the Bach Society of Baltimore; and before the Navy, I sang and played Trumpet in school for nine years.
It was while singing for the Bach Society that a friend there introduced me to Irish music and my Fiddle teacher Rosie Shipley (see www.shipwhistle.com) at J. Patrick's Irish Pub in Baltimore. I became a pub addict at that point, spending 4 to 5 nights (and some weekend days) at J. Patrick’s listing to the sessions and the performing groups, learning the various set dances, and singing with an Irish Civil War Reenactment group when they practiced. You know you have been in a pub too long when you find yourself bussing tables and behind the bar washing glasses on those nights the pub was extremely busy (but I did get free drinks for it). However, I have since moved to Northern Virginia and don’t get up there nearly as often as I would like anymore.
Anyway, if you would like to know more, feel free to visit my website at www.albone.com. It’s always a work in progress and I am currently trying to add pictures into my online museum for things I have collected on my travels. I do have a photo album with pictures I have taken of some common sights such as Taj Mahal and some not so common like Petra (you may recognize it from the last Indiana Jones movie) and Debra Bizen, an Orthodox Monastery founded in 1361 in Asmara, Eritrea.
Oh, and for those of you wondering (and someone on this site already knew what it meant!) Amduscias is the Demon of Disturbing Music. I thought it was apt when I first started teaching myself the violin...and I'm sure my neighbors in the barracks would have agreed.
Tunes in amduscias's tunebook: 23
