Hi -- I mostly play flute and whistle, though I've been known to pick up other wind instruments now and then, and cut my teeth (figuratively) on guitar. Can't claim to be classically trained because I've never actually had lessons, but have played in amateur orchestras and bands, was a part of a jazz quartet for a while, and have dabbled elsewhere.
Main problem for me has been finding other people to play with -- took years to find people who liked what I liked. I've played Contra Dance music with a band for the past ten years. Nope, you're right -- that's not Irish. So I work on that mostly by myself (snif...), and don't think I'm really anywhere near Irish literacy. So I plug away at it and lurk here...
