Manuel Waldesco

I’m from Aragón in North-East Spain, though I’ve been living in Scotland since 2001. I picked up my first whistle (Red Generation in D) at 15 and my first trump slightly earlier (an Italian scacciapensieri). I used to play Galician Gaita (badly enough to get away) and nowadays toy a bit with percussion, Swedish bagpipes and willow pipe among other things while trying to learn the flute and keep playing the whistles and trump. I played in some local bands in my hometown (Zaragoza) before moving to Scotland. I’ve been teaching whistle since 2002, first for the ALP Scots Music Group in Edinburgh and after that privately and through other education bodies. I spent four years as Folk and Traditional Music co-ordinator for the Brechin Arts Festival before moving to Alyth. I play regularly at the Brechin session in the Caledonian Hotel (both sides the bar!) and occassionaly in other sessions in Angus. I play mainly a mixture of Scottish, Spanish, Nordic and Irish stuff plus whatever else grabs my fancy.
