scottythefiddler

I am Scott Donaldson. Around Hamilton, Ontario, there are a lot of people who couldn't remember if my last name was Donaldson, or MacDonald or McDonald, or MacDonnell, so I was introduced as Scotty the Fiddler a lot. I never chose the nickname, it was just so natural for anyone unsure of my surname, that it was used a lot. So, when I set up my first e-mail address on hotmail, it was as scottythefiddler.

I love to fiddle; have been doing it for 19 or 20 years now. Can't remember exactly, though I could figure it out. I especially enjoy playing in nursing and retirement homes, and actually earned a very modest living doing that on a fulltime basis for over 6 years. The seniors are great! They know the traditions, many speak Gaelic, or relate stories about traditional music. They are a terrific resource, a link to the past, and a great audience as well. I learned more about the tradition from them, than any other source.

I love to play a variety of traditional music, including Don Messer tunes, pipe tunes, Canadian fiddle tunes, Cape Breton tunes, Irish, and a lot of the old Scotch tunes.

If you are passing through the area, send me an e-mail, and maybe we'll be able to arrange a few tunes together.

Cheers,
Scotty
