daiv

my name is david, and i live about an hour west of chicago. i come from an irish family, and my uncle plays in the band the kells. their website is http://www.thekells.org . i usually play with my grandma or her cousin (who both play the fiddle), though i try to get to sessions. i started out on flute and then whistle. now, i mainly play concertina and transfer the tunes over to flute and whistle.

my favorite musicians:

fiddle-- james kelly, brian rooney, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh
concertina-- noel hill, mary macnamara
pipes-- willie clancy, seamus ennis, mick o'brien, tommy martin, paddy keenan
flute-- mike rafferty, my uncle (brian mccoy), fintan vallely
accordion-- tony mcmahon, paddy o'brien,
singer: joe heany

my favorite whistles are burke whistles ( http://www.burkewhistles.com ) --i play one of the older ones.

my favorite concertinas are carroll concertinas ( http://www.carrollconcertinas.com ) --mine is coming in about 2 or 3 years.

my favorite flute is my flute, stamped with the instrument supplier gisborne of the 1850's. here is a picture of it's twin in the dayton c. miller collection: http://tinyurl.com/vueer
