maestramusica

Hi -
I'm Norma, a classically trained violinist in Colorado, moving in the Celtic direction as I have begun playing with a group at a local coffeehouse. So I'm looking for good fiddle tunes that can be used with the group or as solo material.

UPDATE- Well, things have progressed a great deal since I first joined up. I played for about 18 months at the Patriot and Loyalist in a southern suburb of Denver. But their business was poor except for session nights, so the owners sold out to a lesser owner. Some of us moved up to a pub in a Northern suburb of Denver , the Cheshire Cat ( a neat restaurant/ brew-pub). And I play there most Thursday nights now. The other night, we were visited by none other than Zina Lee and her hubby, and Gina, another local legend in the fiddle world, which left me feeling a bit outclassed, although I can now give a very respectable rendition of "Gravel Walk" reel. I've been asked to do a few weddings, and other gigs, and am still quite loving the whole Irish/ Scottish session tune world.

I'm now playing & rehearsing with Mondragon. (we are 2 fiddles, a 'Zouk/ mandolin player, a guitar,a whistle/ flutist, a Bodhran player, and an upright string Bass) We do a nice mix of Celtic and renaissance type stuff, some Playford dances, etc, as well as some ballads and pub songs. If I do say so myself, we sound downright AWESOME! Most of us are in the Thursday night session as well. IT'S AWESOME to be playing with such talented musicians and to have such FUN at it.
