Hi Folks!
I am Ruediger Wahler from Northern Germany and because of no similar name in the english speaking world just call me Rory.
I live nearby Kiel, one hour driving from Hamburg.
I learned to play guitar when I was 14 years old, though my father taught us kids the first chords much earlier.
When I was 17, I played the lead guitar in an local rock band a few years.
And as the years went by I picked the guitar at home just for fun.
I learned about Irish Folk when I was 13 years old. My brother used to listen to The Dubliners and I enjoyed it!
Since a few years I play mandoline and banjo and I love to listen to Gerry O'Connor and his mighty banjo style.
I attended a workshop with Gerry in 2002 in Longford at the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival.
And - great! - was allowed to play along with Gerry while my wife took a video of it!
We too have a weekly folk workshop here to learn new tunes and a weekly session in a pub.
