Still enjoy playing classical music but my heart is in trad. Scottish Fiddle Music, also Shetland, Cape Breton and Irish.
Impressed by number and quality of current young fiddle players. Frightening, some of them ! My brain's still trying to connect with my fingers.
Still slow at picking up tunes by ear, (lack of practice), but sight reading OK, so The Session is an ideal site to extend repertoire by both methods.
Currently play a couple of the many fiddles made by my great grandfather at end of 19thC - so strong emotional and sentimental links.
Freelancing in a number of local Ceilidh Bands, which tend to be dominated by Button and Piano Accordions but have also been known to enjoy sessions surrounded by the best malt scotch whisky!
