Scottish, forty-something, played guitar (by ear) for years, took up the fiddle about five years ago (also by ear) and have struggled away ever since - happy of the guitar experience under my belt but a bit frustrated at my musical "regression". I listen a lot to people like Liz Carroll, Liz Docherty, Aly Bain and others. I've been to a few lessons and some workshops. I play/practice a reasonable amount but also try to maintain my sanity by having a normal life and other interests. I also play a bit of mandolin. The guitar experience certainly helps with this.
