oxcart
I play flute, whistle and piccolo and my weeks are divided between Oxford and Suffolk, with occasional forays to London.
I love playing in a good session and my favourite musical experience is when the 70-year old fiddle player asks the 12-year old box player: "that's a grand tune. What name do you have for it". Sums up everything I like about Irish music - social, unpretentious and joyful.
Heard Desi Donnelly playing at a fleadh in Ashton in Makerfield in the early 70s - boy, was he good!
My definition of a true session player is "someone who has the ability and technique to play" the Masons Apron" in A at 130bpm - but the good taste not to"
