flutefry
I've been playing the Irish flute for 5 years. Playing ITM ,I've met very kind people who have been supportive when there wasn't much to support. This makes a pleasant change from many previous things I've tried to learn. That sense of community is what I like the best. Learning by ear, and having the tunes by heart, instead of by head, has been the biggest challenge. I'm rather late to the idea that I should listen loudly and play softly, and even later to the realization that I have to listen to myself, and ask whether I sound right. I find the biggest thing to work on is the confidence to lead. My attempts so far show me that I was kidding myself by playing along in large groups, and that there are many tunes I only sort of know. So now I am hoping that maybe in years 5-10 I might learn something. Oh and heh-heh, I am am learning the uilleann pipes to keep myself in trouble.
