4square
4Square are four young musicians who play and sing a melodic blend of tunes and songs.
From foot stomping reels, to weaving Eastern melodies, to heart wrenching songs, as well as many self-compositions, they play with technical prowess that defies their age, as well as fiery energy, and always a touch of fun.
This Manchester-based quartet burst onto the folk scene in December 2006,
and are currently working on their debut album.

Afan specializes in pan-celtic music, integrating tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and wherever Celtic music has been found. The website features band bios, sound clips, pictures, and more. Afan have played across the southwest and are starting to raise eyebrows (and more!) across the nation and across the world.

Aff the Cuff
From Neil Gow to Dougie Mclean, from the Bothy Band to the Waterboys, Aff the Cuff take an eclectic view of the music they play.
From an original loose-knit outfit called Shoot the Craw formed in 1988, Aff The Cuff came together as the session grew in size. The name was chosen when the musicians started doing gigs in and around Dundee.
This website is a great place to find out what's happening in the Dundee and Angus area of Scotland. Users can also post their own news about sessions in the area.

Ask My Father
The mighty Zina Lee's own group!
Here's a quote from their home page:
"Ask My Father is the name of an Irish traditional tune -- a treble jig in D -- and the band chose it for our name because the fiddler (Zina) is of Chinese descent, the guitarist (George) is English and Hispanic, the bodhran player (Janet) is Swiss and Scottish, and the uilleann piper (Dirk) is German. So naturally we play Irish traditional music."

At First Light
At First Light comprises the talents of world renowned Uilleann Piper John McSherry and outstanding young fiddle player Dónal O'Connor, creators of Tripswitch, which has been described as 'Acoustic perfection'.
Combined with the sublime talent of Francis McIlduff from the famous McPeake clann, the power, clarity and sheer joy of Alan Burke formerly of the band Afterhours and 'Asturien Traditional Musician of the Year 2006' Rubén Bada and you can see why the band is being portrayed as 'a dream team line up'.

At The Racket
Biography
“…bringing exciting seductive sounds to town…”
At the Racket came together in 1997 and have produced two CDs to date, At the Racket and Mirth Making Heroes. The band brings an interesting new sound to Irish music today, playing seriously joyous music which will lift hearts and dare the feet to stop dancing. While performing, the band takes its audience on a musical journey, ranging from the sounds of the Golden era of 1920’s vaudeville through to the traditional music of today. At the Racket is both a recreation of the style of a bygone era and one of the freshest “new” sounds in Irish music today. They stand alone for their style and uniqueness and are well known for their uplifting banjo/saxophone lead sound which gives that "divil-may-care-ness" to all their tunes be they jigs, reels, flings, waltzes or songs. With echoes of the pioneering Irish dance bands who recorded in the 1920s, they combine swirling saxophone and banjo with vamping piano and pulsating guitars, honeyed tones of fiddle and flute, along with a velvet voice! In essence, At the Racket is a band to fill lungs with pure oxygen and set souls ablaze making this band such a delight for live audiences!
The line up includes:
John Carty on fiddle and banjo.
John originally from London now living in Boyle is well known on the traditional circuit as recipient of TG4 Traditional Musician of the Year in 2003. John also plays with Matt Molloy and Patrick Street.
www.johncartymusic.com
Brian McGrath on piano, tenor guitar, and banjo.
Brian originally from Co. Fermanagh now living in Galway has played and recorded with all the big names in Traditional music including De Dannan and Four Men and a Dog.
Seamus O'Donnell on flute, saxophone and vocals.
Seamus is part of the O’Donnell clan from Aclare, Co Sligo and continues their wonderful family singing tradition. He is particularly respected for his uniquely traditional style on the saxophone.
Michael Mc Cague on guitar.
Michael is from Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, but he has been living and playing in Galway since 2001. He is highly in demand as an accompanist and has recorded on various traditional albums to date.

Beltaine - Celtic Music Group
The Polish music group Beltaine was created in the year of 2002. The band quickly gained the hearts of the audiences all over the country, what might be certified by the fact that in less than two years time it managed to perform at almost 200 concerts. Beltaine’s music – it does not leave one indifferent. At times it gives birth to an atmosphere of mystery – inducing one to dream, far more often however, it seizes a person in an unstoppable dance. Six young people, inspired by Irish and Bretonian folk music, perform it in a unique way. Both old, traditional melodies, as well as own compositions - inspired by the former ones, are distinguished by an unusual sound, which the band owes mainly to interesting musical adaptations using modern achievements of present-day music. Rich set of instruments combined with an exceptional vivaciousness, spontaneity and great loads of good humor contribute to the originality of the band putting it among one of the fastest developing Celtic music groups in Poland.

Fiddlers Bid
Fiddlers Bid formed in 1991, when original fiddlers Maurice, Christopher, Kevin and the late Michael Ferrie, together with Davie Keith on piano, were students at high school.
The boys were tutored by some of Shetlands most outstanding players: the late Willie Hunter, late Arthur Scott Robertson and Trevor Hunter. They would also have informal sessions, almost daily - often with their tutors - and this helped to create the rapport that exists between the fiddlers today.
Steve Yarrington (Guitar) and Dave Coles (Bass) joined the band the following year, and this line-up continued until the sad death of Michael Ferrie in early 1996.
Fiddler, Andrew Gifford joined the band later that year, and the Fiddlers Bid sound was once again complete with the addition of Catriona McKay on Scottish harp and piano, at the Shetland Folk Festival in 1997.

One of Irish music's
greatest musical experiences
Welcome to the home page of one of Irish music's hottest new sounds, "Guidewires". Here you will find all the latest news on the band as well as some pictures, videos, touring dates and much more.
Guidewires:
With their high-energy performances, breathtaking arrangements and their infectious melodies, its no wonder that this band are being described as “The freshest sound in Irish music”. With four members coming from Ireland and one from Brittany it is inevitable their mix of music is not just Irish but also Breton, Middle Eastern, Galician and newly composed.
Guidewires have an all-star line up with a record five times all Ireland champion Pádraig Rynne on concertina, Breton music’s hottest name Sylvain Barou on Flute, one of Ireland’s most recognisable names Tóla Custy on fiddle, top producer and performer Paul McSherry on guitar and one of the fastest growing stars in Irish music, Karol Lynch on Bouzouki. All members have had renowned fame individually within music. Their love and passion of this music has brought them together to create this unique and groundbreaking band “Guidewires”
With a new album due for release in early 2009 this band can only continue on the upward spiral.
Live performances have been described as being electric and leave audiences on their feet longing for more.

Halali
The founding members of Halali -- Hanneke, Laura, and Lissa -- hail from extreme corners of the United States, but met in California at Alasdair Fraser's school for Scottish fiddling when they were teenagers. They formed a friendship that lasted until they relocated to Boston, where they attend music school. Each fiddler brings her distinct style to the band, but all are influenced by a common group of folk heroes in traditional genres such as Scottish, Irish, Quebecois, Old Time (Appalachian), Cape Breton, and Scandinavian. This produces a creative yet harmonious sound that has generated an enormously positive response.

Website of wonderful Breton/Scottish band Kornog. Although they play mostly Breton music, many Irish-style flute players cite Jean Michel Veillon as an influence. There is quite a strong link between Breton and Belfast musicians; it's worth checking this music out.
Nicolas Quemener has replaced Soig Siberil on guitar but otherwise the original line-up hasn't changed:
Jean Michel Veillon - flutes, bombarde and bansuri
Christian Lemaitre - fiddle
Jamie McMenemy - vocals, bouzouki

Paddy's Pig
Paddy's Pig play mostly traditional Irish songs of drinking, relationships and war, along with some Irish jigs, reels, hornpipes and airs. It's all done with an offbeat approach (we are "curly-tailed", after all), a little bit of humor and a lot of fun and energy. We utilize traditional Irish instruments as well as less conventional ones, like a bass made out of a washtub! While we are almost exclusively acoustic, occasionally we throw in electric bass for good measure. Paddy's Pig are based in the Los Angeles, California area.

Roy has won the Senior division of the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddler's Convention numerous times. Since 1980 he has been crowned "Fiddle King" at the Georgia Mountain Fiddler's Contest several times including 2004, beating none other than the late Randy Howard in 1996. A search online for Roy Crawford and fiddle will bring a surprising amount of results for awards and other recordings he has been part of but this is the first that is truly his own.
Along with Roy is Charlie Cushman on Banjo and Guitar. Charlie is one of the most demanded banjo players in Nashville today. He has played with all the stars in country music. A reference to his site is listed. There you will find that he played the background music for the tv series The Dukes of Hazzard, and a long list of stars including Andy Griffith, Dolly Pardon.... his site also offers banjo instruction for learners.
Terry Smith plays bass. Terry is another Nashville resident. Soon after the recording of the Cd he was off to Europe so we have not had much time to talk to him.

Slinte
"Slinte" means "cheers" - an appropriate name for this successful six piece UK band specialising in Celtic music. Slinte features an extraordinary variety of instruments - there aren't many Celtic bands which feature a harp, highland pipes, penny whistles, a flute, a fiddle, guitars, a banjo, an electric bass, a mandolin, a bodhran, a bouzouki and a range of harmonic voices.
In their quieter numbers, Slinte conjure up sounds that delight and captivate audiences. In the instrumental sets, they have an amazing pace and energy. The tempo hots up - the harmonies get thrown in all directions, and everything is treated with fabulous musicianship and a sense of enjoyment that is totally infectious.
In the words of Padraig Duggan, from Clannad, "I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone for an outstanding evening's entertainment".

Spiro
A 4-piece folk band (fiddle, piano accordion, guitar, mandolin) of 16 years standing, based in the West of England. Much of their music is based on English North Country folk tunes, and is all composed by the band. There is no "solo" playing in their music and the sound is of a complexity and richness that gives the impression that the band is larger than its four members. The ensemble playing of the four is more like that of a professional string quartet than anything else. In the recording studio they play as if they were playing live on stage, and there is no dubbing on any of the tracks.

Three Mile Stone
Three Mile Stone is Marla Fibish, Erin Shrader, and Richard Mandel. This San Francisco-based trio of Irish Musicians has played together for years, and has finally released their debut CD. The core of their sound is all strings—fiddle, mandolin and guitar playing Irish dance music—jigs, reels, and all the good stuff. Erin and Marla’s bold styles are well matched on fiddle and mandolin; they are prodded and propelled by Richard’s driving guitar back-up. To toss it up, Richard will put down the guitar and pick up the tenor banjo, and Marla might hand the mandolin over to Erin and pick up the button accordion. They round it all out with some choice songs. Erin is likely to grace and surprise you with lovely a capella songs from her collection. Marla is likely to accompany her singing with the mandola. Their self-titled album is produced by John Doyle and becomes available in March 2010.

TJ Hull And Jeff Ksiazek
During the 1920s and 1930s, a connection was forged. Immigrant musicians from Ireland created an abundance of recordings that, in turn, made their way from the United States back home to influence other musicians. The big pond became a bit smaller, and Irish traditional music became a bit bigger.
TJ Hull and Jeff Ksiazek are two musicians, some eighty odd years later, who are still being influenced by this music, by names like Coleman, Morrison, and McKenna. Taking inspiration from these past legends, as well as many other master musicians along the way, this duo focuses on the heart and soul of the tunes handed down over the years. They recall the simple setting of the early traditional recordings: a melody, an accompaniment, and a tune.
Still, Hull and Ksiazek view this music as a living tradition. Chances are taken. Creativity is paramount. Other influences are absorbed. The end result is traditional, yet modern. Familiar, yet unexpected.
TJ Hull plays fiddle, mandola, octave mandolin and whistle. He is a member of The Culchies, teaches music (folk and classical), and writes and arranges music. He also brews some damn fine beer.
Jeff Ksiazek plays guitar, whistle, flute, and octave mandolin. He plays with Milwaukee Irish band áthas, teaches music (whistle, flute, and guitar), and tends to write rambling, important-sounding bios.

An unlikely combination of musical backgrounds - self-taught folkies, heavy metal devotee, music-school nerd, and rock veterans - found common ground in a love of traditional music and became Venus Murphy.
