Algomatrad Music And Dance Family Camp
Hi Folks,
Here is a brand new musical summer camp for kids and adults run by the
incomparable Pat O'Gorman and Julie Schryer. It's held on St. Joseph Island
near Sault Ste. Maries in north western Ontario, Canada.

August 22-27th.
All info at
www.algomatrad.ca
705-782-4311

"The Algoma Traditional Music and Dance Family Camp (ALGOMATRAD) has been a
dream of it's founders, Julie Schryer and Pat O'Gorman for many years. With
the help of a board of directors and a group of local community volunteers,
this year, 2004, the dream will become a reality. This year, the first year,
the staff will be made up of members of the Brian Pickell Band and Tramp
Steamer, including Brian Pickell, Mark Sullivan, James Stephens, Charlie
Cares and Pat O'Gorman and Julie Schryer. Dan Gorno from Michigan will be
the dance teacher and caller. Local artist Anny Hubbard will offer native
arts and crafts and storytelling. They will have a children's activity
coordinator for the young children to give parents a chance to attend
workshops..."

Loads of fiddles, pipes, flutes and whistles, guitars, piano and much more.
This looks very exciting and very family oriented. It's also handy to the
border for anybody from the States thinking about heading up.
Regards,
Pat Simmonds

Causeway Dulcimer Festival
The International "Causeway Dulcimer Festival" takes place in the home of the Irish Hammered Dulcimer, Co. Antrim, in the north coast town of Bushmills, which is set between the Giant's Causeway & Bushmills Distillery.
It happens each June, and is designed to promote an interest in this unusual Traditional Irish Instrument.
As well as encouraging more people to take up this wonderful instrument, the festival keeps alive the memory of Ireland's most famous Dulcimer player, John Rea of Glenarm.
The CDF also promotes the Traditional Music, Song & Rhyme of North Antrim and so instruments like the Fife, Fiddle and Lambeg are also featured.
A special feature of the event is the Smallpipes and the first festival featured Northumbrian Smallpipes. In 2006 the Scottish Smallpipes & Uilleann Pipes will feature.

Caversham Charity Folk Festival
The Caversham Charity Folk Festival began in 1994 and quickly become established in the local and national festival calendar. It includes concerts, sing-a-rounds, sessions, dance displays, storytelling, workshops, guided walks of the local area, children's events, musical river cruises. All events are easily accessible and audience participation is encouraged. The Festival attracts a wide range of national and local performers.

Caversham Charity Folk Festival (CCFF) is a registered charity and a non-profit making organisation whose objects are to promote folk music and dance and to raise funds for a number of designated charities, most with local relevance.

Admission to the Festival is very low cost and many fringe events are free to the public; most performers give their services free of charge or for nominal expenses only. Money is raised from main event ticket, programme sales, camping charges, collection tins, sale of merchandise, raffle tickets, etc. In addition, the CCFF receives contributions from traders attending the Festival and from those venues hosting Festival fringe events. An established network of volunteers, The Friends of CCFF and members of the supported charities act as stewards, collectors and helpters at the Festival.

The CCFF is primarily reliant on the generosity of local people and organisations to meet the costs involved in staging the Festival.

We would appreciate any help you may be able to give to ensure the success of the next Festival.

Fleadh Amhran agus Rince
Newcastle CCE is set, once again, to host the annual Fleadh Amhrán agus Rince. As the title suggests, the emphasis here is on traditional singing and dancing. Over the years, this Ulster-based festival has attracted many of the connoisseurs of traditional singing and dancing.
Over the weekend the main attractions are the competitions in traditional singing, dancing and Irish language. The organising committee has also arranged workshops in various instruments with some of the best tutors to be had. There are also plenty of informal sessions in the pubs and plenty of craic at the gig rig.
Situated about 5 miles northwest of the seaside resort of Newcastle, Co. Down, Castlewellan lies 30 miles southeast of Belfast and 87 miles north of Dublin and its design is said to be based on a town in France. It is a beautiful market town with plenty of space for parking and tree lined streets.
Perched on a hillside nestled between the northern foothills of the Mourne, a region of outstanding natural beauty, the area abounds with wonderful scenery, mountains and meadows, forests, lakes, rivers and drumlins galore.
The town is the home of the beautiful Castlewellan Forest Park with its castle, lake and many lovely walks. Here you will also find the famous Peace Maze - the largest permanent hedge maze in the world.

Q: What's the worst thing about web-based entries?
A: Writing a masterpiece or epic and then clicking on the wrong button and losing the lot!

So there was a story akin to 'War and Peace' here -- which is to say it was long, not that it was translated from the original Russian text -- and I could try to recreate it, but you know what?

I won't!

Maybe everything does actually happen for a reason.

Live recording of Paddy Keenan at the 2007 Port Fairy Folk Festival
We had the pleasure of recording Paddy Keenan accompanied by Ben Stephenson when he performed at the Port Fairy Folk Festival in March.

Liveband is a team of three people who became concerned how many traditional and folk musicians simply were running out of money to perform, record and tour. We work with artists and their management to record live performances through a dedicated multi-track recorder. The performance is made available as a digital download with 50% of all profits going back to the artist in addition to the royalties we pay through the Australian collection agency APRA.

If you are a fan of Paddy's music, we hope you will enjoy this recording.

Danu

Fri 10 June

It's over 5 years since Danu toured in the UK, but at last they're back. The band first burst onto the Irish music scene in the mid-nineties and rapidly generated an excited buzz, as it became clear that this was a new band with something special. Since then they have gone on to become one of the leading names in Irish music today with highly acclaimed albums, a whole cabinet awards and appearances at virtually every major folk festival worldwide.

The band's line-up contains an abundance of talent and instrumental firepower which combine to create an irresistible energy. In Danu all the elements that make great Irish music come satisfyingly together - exceptional musicianship, masterful vocals, high-energy sets of tunes and subtly crafted songs make Danu as complete a band as is to be found anywhere in the tradition.

Come rain or shine...

Arena events will go ahead, so bring your cagoules, cushions and anything you need to be comfortable.

Rencontre Musicale Irlandaise
This year will be the 15th, and I'm sure every bit as good as the last 14. There are 5 days of Music, Song and Dance built around workshops tutored by well known and not so well known Irish musicians, singers and dance teachers.
This mini festival is quite small, which means that the sessions are intimate and the craic is mighty.
All other relevant information can be had from the site but the line-up for 2005 is not yet posted. Always the middle of July.
