Aoife Granville and Gearóid Keating Workshop and Concert

The successful workshop and concert series at Brú na Sí in Youghal continues on 19th January with the focus turning to flute and banjo. Workshops in flute, banjo and dancing will be facilitated by Aoife Granville, Gearóid Keating and Liam Guiney.

Aoife Granville, from Dingle in County Kerry, is an acclaimed flute and fiddle player who recently released her debut album, Sráid Eoin Shuffle. She has taught at numerous summer schools and workshops including Scoil Éigse – the principal summer school of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann – and Scoil Samhradh Willie Clancy.

Gearóid Keating from West Limerick is an immensely talented musician who claimed the Senior All-Ireland Banjo title at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann last August. Coincidentally, he was the first banjo student of Daithí Kearney, now living and teaching in Youghal.

Liam Guiney, from Meelin in Cork, was previously involved in the choreography of the Youghal Seisiún show – the most popular Seisiún show in the country. Liam has toured extensively with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and has been involved in a number of projects in east Cork. He is a very exciting young dancer and, in his footwork displays some of the rare old traditional steps passed down by dancers such as Joe O'Donovan of Cork.

The workshops and concerts provide wonderful opportunities for the audience in Youghal to experience performances by some of the countries top Irish traditional music artists. They also provide young musicians in east Cork the opportunity to meet with and learn from these performers.

For more information on the workshops or concerts contact Micheál on 087 793 4504 or Daithí on 087 641 9081. Concerts begin at 8pm in Brú na Sí.
